Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. After relocating to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma realized she would like to be an actor and for a number of years she studied at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. At the age of ten, she took part and performed the main role in numerous Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. The casting process began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agents through her Oxford teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been selected for the characters. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first film on the screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. The film was also the film that was most popular during 2001. Opening days and weekends of the sales were record breaking. Film critics praised the film as well as the performance of three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British publication, described Emma's acting "amazing". Then Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film, winning an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress Young in the feature Film.
